High School Freshman Boys

Earlier this week I was substitute teaching a class that was predominately freshman boys. And by predominately I mean there were 30 kids in the class and 25 were boys. As we can all imagine freshmen boys are not the most mature or the smartest. One particular boy, who is not well liked by his classmates, had a electric planner sitting on his desk when it mysteriously went missing. I had him search his bag and then I searched his bag hoping that it had slipped into it unnoticed and we could avoid a big scene. But to no avail- it was MIA. I announced to the class that it was missing and that nobody would be going to lunch until it returned. I really did not want to spend my lunch with those boys but I guess they did not mind because it still did not reappear. Finally, I called the discipline office and explained the situation. This was my first time calling the office since I began substituting and it kind of felt good because I did not have to be the bad guy. So anyways, the dean of students shows up and starts taking kids outside and making them dump out their backpacks and pockets. After about 7 students she gets a call saying that the campus supervisor had found it. I am not sure where he found it but my guess is that one of the students who went to their "locker" before it was discovered to be missing must have stashed it somewhere. The good thing is that it was found and I did not have to spend my lunch with them! Did they really think that they could get away with it? I mean seriously! It was definitely one of the most interesting subbing days that I have had all year and it was still very enjoyable despite the commotion. I admit though that I am so excited to almost be done with subbing!
