Maddy School- "A"

Since I quit my job- Kevin decided that I needed to start earning my keep so we started Maddy school. The good thing is that there are tons of resources online to help but I am still working on sifting through it all and deciding what things work best for us.

I decided to start with the basics and work our way through the alphabet. I picked words that Maddy knew and some that she didn't. Then I printed them all out and created a word wall in our dining room. Even if Maddy still can't say them all she at least knows what they are and can point to them when asked.

One of the ideas I liked online was to do a Muffin Tin Monday Meal. So we had things that started with A or could relate to A.

We started with apples and went on an apple hunt through the house.

She was amazing at finding the apples. Even the next day she was still spotting ones that I forgot about.

We painted using apples.

Read Ten Apples Up on Top by Dr. Seuss and made our own.

Painted an apple tree.

She is still getting the hang of glue and not ripping it off after it is put on.

Then we moved on to Alligators. She can now snap her hands like an alligator!

We did playdough mats and made the letter A

Played with our Animal toys and made their sounds. We also used animal flashcards and moved around the room like certain animals.

Did Animal puzzles

We played with Airplanes as well. She is aiming at Kevin right now.

Had a paper airplane making contest.

Kevin's won but barely.

We also made an Ant out of an egg carton.

We also sorted apples into different sizes from biggest to littlest.

Made felt stories for Five Little Apples and 5 Little Monkeys.

Made an Apple wreath to put on our front door.

Books we read and loved:
  1. Animalia- Graeme Base
  2. Chicka Chicka Boom Boom- Bill Martin
  3. Alligator Alphabet- Stella Blackstone
  4. ABC- Dr. Seuss
  5. Ten Apples Up On Top- Dr. Seuss
  6. The Apple Pie Tree- Zoe Hall
  7. The Apple Pie that Papa Baked- Laura Thompson
  8. Apple Farmer Annie-Monica Wellington
  9. How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World- Marjorie Priceman
  10. Planes- Anne Rockwell
  11. Snip Snap! What's That?- Mara Bergman
  12. A Girl and her Gator- Sean Bryan
  13. Art- Patrick McDonnell
  14. Is your Mama a Llama-Deborah Guarino
We read lots more books but these were our favorites.
