Baby Scott's actual due date was July 4th but my doctor was going to be out of town the entire week and I was not willing to risk going late. So we decided to schedule an induction for June 30th at 6 am. Since my 36 week check up I was already dilated to a 4 (just like with Maddy) so I was hoping that labor wouldn't be so bad since I was almost half way already. My mom came into town on June 28th and so we were ready for Scott to make his arrival.
On June 29th we got a call from my doctor that she made a mistake and had accidentally scheduled my induction for the WRONG hospital. So our new time was 1:30 instead of 6. That night I barely slept because I was so anxious and nervous. Well at 6:15 we got a call from the hospital saying that we could come in as soon as possible. At 6:45 we kissed Maddy good bye and by 7 were sitting in the delivery room.
When I got checked for the first time at the hospital I was already dilated to a 5 and 90% effaced! Luckily we had a fantastic nurse and it only took her one try to get my IV in (with Maddy it took like 5 tries). They started the pitocin around 8 to get my contractions regular and so I could feel them. I definitely started feeling them but it was still bearable. Around 11 I got my epidural and then it was sure bliss. I was at that point dilated to a 6.
Around 1 my doctor came in to break my water but low and behold it was already breaking on its own. Around 1:30 we were noticing that Scott's heartbeat would get really slow at points so we called in the nurse. She said that his heartbeat was just going down with the really hard contractions and then she checked me and I was already at a 10 and ready to go! So I went from a 6 to a 10 in half an hour and it was hard on the poor guy. They put me on oxygen to help him out but it completely freaked me out.
Of course my doctor had just left so they called her and she came right back. At 2 everything was ready and I could push. I pushed for about 20 minutes and didn't even notice when he came out. I really could not feel anything which was wonderful! They told me to open my eyes and there he was! They suctioned him out and cleaned him up and gave him to me.
It has been an interesting couple of days but so far he is a decent sleeper and eater. Maddy loves him but maybe a little too much. She constantly wants to hold him and give him kisses. She tells us that "He is my brother".
We are all in love with him and so excited to have him in our lives!
On an unrelated note- this is my 400th post!
