It was so neat to walk around the city and see the old Roman walls. It made the history teacher in me just squeal with delight!
This is the San Giovanni in Laterano Church which was the first Catholic Church. It is also the Pope's church. The original church was built in the 4th century and then renovated in the 18th so it looks newer than it actually is.
Here is a statue of Constantine who of course made Rome a Christian empire. The statue was found in the ruins of the baths of Diocletian.
These bronze door are the original Roman Senate doors from the Imperial Forum
We were told by a tour guide that if Maddy touched the doors then her first child would be a boy. As we walked away she asked if she had a baby in her belly and I told her that she had to wait 20 years to find out! I also touched the doors so we will see if the Romans know their stuff! (Not an announcement by the way)
